The Department of Diplomacy and International Studies in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy hosted the Chinese delegation led by Dr. Jin Xin -Secretary-General China Council for BRIC’s (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and United Arab Emirates) Think Tank cooperation and Director General of the Research Office of IDCPC (International Department of the Chinese Communist Party) for the China-Africa Relations and the South-South cooperation Seminar.

The Department of Diplomacy & International Studies today (20th feb 2024) hosted an international conference on The Role of Women In Diplomacy'. The conference explored the impact of women-led efforts in enabling the realization of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The University of Nairobi, Department of Diplomacy and International Studies is proud of its dedication to promoting student participation in both classroom and real-world awareness of world affairs. Our department's staff, Dr. Shazia Chaundry and three postgraduate students namely; Japheth Musau Kasimbu, Leanne Nyawira Kamau and Rabecca Kavithe Ndeto recently participated in the Horn of Africa Expo on Pastoralists, which took place in Ethiopia.

The Department of Diplomacy and International Studies (DDIS) hosted Major General Jami C. Shawley, the Commanding General of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) today. Major Shawley was accompanied by Major General Fatuma Ahmed (KDF), and they discussed the current status of the US-Kenya Security Partnership at the University of Nairobi. The discussion took place through the African Center for the Study of the US based at DDIS.

On the 22nd of November 2023, Mr. Boniface Mwalli M-PRSK an alumnus and current master's student at the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies made a presentation about the 'Borderless Africa Project' during the 2023 African Crossroads gathering which took place in Lusaka, Zambia between the 21st and 22nd November, 2023. On October 12, 2023, the University of Nairobi, Department of Diplomacy and Internation Studies, Chairman Dr. Patrick Maluki, hosted Mr. Drew Giblin, the US cultural attaché.

Mr. Giblin paid a courtesy call to the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies as part of the Africa Center for the Study of the United States of America, which aims at: linking African and American scholars; convening Africa-US dialogues; providing data and information to US organizations; and hosting induction programs for African diplomats posted to the US.

On the 4th of August 2023, Dr. Patrick Maluki, Chairman, Department of Diplomacy and International Studies (DDIS), University of Nairobi, paid a courtesy call to Hon. Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary, State Department for Diaspora Affairs, Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. Hon. Njogu hosted a delegation of students from the US in a Kenya Cultural Diplomacy Initiative (KCDI) through the Global Connections Kenya. 

Today marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of democratic governance, peace, and development in Africa as the African Inter-Party Dialogue Network (AIPDN) is officially launched. AIPDN, a groundbreaking platform, aims to foster inter-party dialogue and strengthen multi-party democracy across the continent.
