On 17th of September at 1:30 P.M, a team of lecturers and students from the University of Nairobi's Department of Diplomacy and International Studies paid a visit to the embassy of the State of Palestine on the invitation of the ambassador H.E Hazim Shabbat.
The visit entailed watching a movie screening organized by the embassy in collaboration with the senior lectures from the department. The Documentary movie, which was titled "Where the Olive Trees Weep," depicted the grim realities of endurance of the Palestinian people in withstanding seven decades of brutal occupation. It was witnessed that the Palestinians were subjected to destruction, displacement, and unmitigated abuse. The outstanding theme was the need to recognize the unyielding right of the Palestinian people to have a state of their own where they can live in dignity and honour. After witnessing the issues at stake and the movie dispelling many myths surrounding the Palestinian occupation such as the religious narrative in it, the students appreciated the event as it represented part of their learning routine to understand global environment and issues at stake.
At the end of the film, the ambassador H.E Hazim Shabbat thanked the staff and students for responding to his invitation, reiterating the need to enhance further engagement between the department and the embassy. He promised to arrange other film screening events. On their part, the school staff thanked the embassy on its generosity in hosting them.
The visit ended with a late lunch at 4 P.M. and later, a group photo, after which the students and the staff departed to school.
