The Department of Diplomacy and International Studies (DDIS) in collaboration with  Moi University will host the launch of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Kenyan Chapter (SDSN-K) on Thursday 3/02/2022. Towards the achievement of the fourth SDG, the event will be on discussing the 2022-2026 Strategic Plan of the Network. The Guest-of-Honour in attendance will be the Cabinet Secretary of Education Prof. George Magoha.

Under the auspices of the UN Secretary Council, the SDSN-K is tasked with mobilising global scientific and technological knowledge on the challenges of sustainable development, including the design and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is achieved through collaborations with academic institutions such as DDIS through the inclusion of SDGs as part of its teaching curriculum.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Stephen Kiama, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to this relationship by proposing 4 key contribution measures. These include:

  1. Boosting of the Science and Art of Sustainable Development in syllabuses for the tertiary education programmes,
  2. Enhancing Access to University Instructional Materials Advancing Sustainability in Socio-Economic Production and Consumption,
  3. Developing Centres of Excellence in the Practice of Sustainability in Economic and Social Activity, and
  4. Rallying Political Support at the National and County Levels for Greater Assimilation of the SDG Ideals in Civic Life at the Grass-Roots Level of the Society.
