The EU-AU Module focuses on regional integration, adopting a comparative approach. It is an opportunity for deepening knowledge of how the respective institutions of the EU and AU regional integration models can work together, especially to bring peace in the 21st-century multi-crisis world. The course is designed to give students an in-depth understanding of the EU's and AU's regional integration models by examining their historical trajectories, foundational principles, organizational structures, operational functions, and policy frameworks. While the EU's values of human rights, rule of law, equality, and democracy serve as its guiding principles, the AU prioritizes Pan-Africanism, sovereignty, solidarity, and sustainable development as cornerstones of its integration agenda. Students explore how these core values inform the internal and external policies of both organizations, shaping their identities and roles in global governance. Particular attention is given to comparing the mechanisms of regional cooperation, public diplomacy, and strategic partnerships in both contexts.
