The Associate Director, Mr. Gerrishon Ikiara participated in drawing up of the Meru County Strategic Plan during a workshop that was held at the Kenya Methodist University's Main Campus in Meru from June 28-29, 2013. Mr. Ikiara focused on how to kick-start industrialization in the county by tapping on the available resources. The broad aim of the workshop was to come up with a vision and strategy for Meru County for the next five years.

Ms. Waeni Ngoloma, a Lecturer in French at the Institute is a member of a church groupp that visits the Childrens' Cancer Ward at Kenyatta National Hospital twice a month. The aim of the visits is to encourage the children, give them hope by, among other things, buying them story books and crafts. Young people from the church also organize for plays with the children who together with their parents, have come to really appreciate the group's efforts and always look forward for the visits.

Ms. Waeni Ngoloma is in charge of a group that helps to alleviate the effects of drought that cause famine in Makueni County. Among the activities that they engage in are:

  1. Collecting food items to distribute to those affected by famine;
  2. Raising funds to combat famine;
  3. Teaching the local farmers better and cheaper modern farming methods and
  4. Initiating income generating activities that are aimed at raising the standards of living of the local residents.
