PERSISTENCE OF TERRORISM: ANALYSIS OF EXISTING MECHANISM IN KENYA

The research topic of this study is about the persistence of terrorism analysis of mechanism in Kenya. The main objective of the study is to assess the role of al-Shabaab on Kenyan’s state security  and  strategies  used  by  Kenya  to  respond  to  al-Shabaab  threat  while  the  specific objectives of the study are: Determine the effectiveness of the current coordination mechanism of the internal security actors; To examine the strategies being used by Kenya to respond to Al- Shabaab threat; Determine the effectiveness of existing command and control mechanisms of the forces/players involved; and to determine the role and effectiveness of civil society, legislation and the judiciary in the efficient delivery of national security. Chapter one of this study discuses global counter-terrorism players as well as mechanism, in relation to the research topic  present, background of the study, problem of the research statement, objective of the research, hypothesis of the study, literature review, theoretical framework, significant of the study, research design and chapter outline. Chapter two investigates the motives and prevailing forms of international terrorism. Legal, political as well as legislative actions were closely looked particularly form big players. This topic also pays attention to the policy-making architecture, strength and weaknesses of  the  systems  employed.  Chapter  three  examines  the  relationship  between  international terrorism, global security and Kenyan state security. Chapter four examines and analyzes the role of Al-Shabaab and its impact on Kenyan’s state security and also examines the strategies being used by Kenya to respond to Al-Shabaab threat. Chapter five discusses conclusions, summary of findings and recommendation of the study.
